Senior Civil Design Engineer

Regina, sk / Saskatoon, SK / Calgary, AB

Clifton is currently searching for a full time, permanent Senior Civil Design Engineer to join our Regina, Saskatoon, or Calgary office. As the Senior Civil Design Engineer, you will be a reliable, knowledgeable, member of our Civil Practice Team. You will focus on providing senior technical oversight on Civil projects, mentoring intermediate and junior level engineers, and project management.

Responsibilities

Provide technical leadership to a team of engineering and technical professionals.
Lead conceptual and detailed design for a variety of civil engineering projects, including roadways, parking lot development, commercial and industrial site development, municipal services, wastewater engineering services, and associated drainage improvements.
Project delivery at all levels from feasibility to closure.
Lead and develop procurement and tender packages and specification packages for major design projects.
Oversee preparation of engineering drawings, and documentation for projects including technical letters, memorandums, reports, drawing packages, and detailed design packages.
Assist in the evaluation, selection, and application of engineering techniques and procedures.
Prepare engineering reports and technical studies.
Adhere to established design guidelines and procedures in accordance with industry codes and standards.
Analyze design issues and recommend corrective actions.
Review project plans and determine design feasibilities and constraints.
Adhere to Clifton’s Quality Management System in project delivery.
Provide quality control of all design and drafting work associated with assigned projects before final submission.

Required Qualifications and Experience

Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from an accredited post-secondary institution.
Minimum of fifteen (15) years of relevant experience in engineering and design, or a combination of education and experience would be considered.
Registered or eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer in Saskatchewan (APEGS) and/or Alberta (APEGA).
Strong industry knowledge, adept at building and cultivating client relationships.
Proficiency with computer assisted engineering and design software, including the suite of tools from AutoDesk.

Geomatics Technologist

Regina, sk

Clifton is currently searching for a permanent Geomatics Technologist to join our Regina office. As a Geomatics Technologist you will be a valued member of Clifton’s Civil Engineering practice. In this field-based role, you will conduct construction surveying activities at various project sites around Saskatchewan. You will have a strong background in geomatics technology and surveying techniques, along with the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

Conducting construction and topographic surveys using RTK and Optical survey instruments to collect accurate field data.
Recording and maintaining measurements, records, field notes, and other data obtained during field survey activities.
Processing and interpreting survey data using appropriate control files and coordinate systems, while applying strong survey knowledge to ensure quality control throughout the course of the project.
Performing calculations and preparing survey reports, drawings, and other project deliverables, as required.
Supporting project managers by supervising and coordinating field survey activities, determining project requirements, and survey methodology while ensuring adherence to project requirements and best practices.
Maintaining and calibrating surveying equipment to ensure accuracy and reliability.
Travelling to remote job sites, as required, sometimes staying in camp-based accommodations for extended periods.
Providing technical support and guidance to junior surveying staff, as needed.
Adhering to safety protocols and regulations while working on construction sites.
Adapting Clifton’s Quality Management System into project delivery.
Operating a Nuclear Densometer for compaction testing on specified projects that would require a Hybrid Surveyor. Training will be provided, if required, to obtain certification.

Required Qualifications and Experience

Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology, Geomatics, or a related discipline from a recognized post-secondary institution.
Three (3) to five (5) years of relevant field experience in construction and civil surveying or as a Survey Crew Chief; Underground survey experience would be an asset.
Experience in high precision structural surveys (piling, pile caps, anchor bolts).
Able to calculate survey lay-out from Issued for Construction drawings.
Experience with AutoCAD and Civil 3D considered an asset.
Must have (and maintain) a valid Class 5 Driver’s License and provide a clean Driver’s Abstract.
Willing to perform field work and have a flexible schedule to meet project needs. Travel is required for this position, including to remote areas, where working overtime, on weekends, and staying in camp-based accommodations may be required.
Ability to work independently on site, outside and in remote locations for extended periods of time, tolerating variable weather conditions.
Strong organizational skills, including effective management of multiple and conflicting priorities with a demonstrated ability to meet deadlines.

Senior Contaminated Sites Engineer/Geoscientist Team Lead

Clifton is currently searching for a full time, permanent Senior Contaminated Sites Engineer/Geoscientist to join our Saskatoon office as a Team Lead. In this role, you will be a reliable, knowledgeable, and valued member of our Site Assessment & Remediation practice team. You will lead and mentor a team of junior and intermediate professionals and focus on managing and coordinating soil and groundwater investigations and remediation programs.

Responsibilities

Lead, develop, and mentor a team of engineering and technical professionals to promote a high level of technical competence and create an environment of continuous improvement and learning.
Drive business development initiatives for your team by building and nurturing client relationships, leading proposal pursuits, and actively develop opportunities for growth within your area of practice.
Manage large, complex, and/or multidisciplinary projects according to client-approved scopes of work and deliver high quality reports and drawings on time and within budget.
Collaborate with project managers and technical leads to develop and review full project scopes of work, deliverables, cost budgets, schedules for project proposals, and change management.

Intermediate Hydrogeologist/Environmental Engineer/Geoscientist

As an Intermediate Hydrogeologist/Environmental Engineer/Geoscientist, you will be a reliable, knowledgeable, and valued member of our Alberta Site Assessment and Remediation practice team. You will focus on managing and coordinating soil and groundwater investigations and remediation programs, managing client expectations, encouraging safe work practices and technical report writing. This opportunity is available in our Calgary or Edmonton offices.

Responsibilities

Managing and coordinating Phase II Environmental Site Assessments (soil, groundwater, soil vapour) and Remediation Projects including staff and contractor logistics, safety plans, ground disturbance procedures, and municipal permits.
Preparing proposals and scopes of work including designing field investigations and sampling programs, budget estimating, project resourcing and scheduling.
Overseeing and directing field teams in the execution of field investigation programs.
Developing Tier 2 Guidelines, interpreting hydraulic conductivity tests and groundwater flow contouring, and using Mann-Kendall trend analysis software.
Preparing technical reports including Phase II Environmental Site Assessments, Risk Management Plans, Soil and Groundwater Management Plans and Remedial Action Plans.
Providing peer review and professional signoff and stamping of professional work product.
Supporting and coordinating environmental project work with other Clifton technical disciplines.
Maintaining and developing client relationships.
Mentoring and training junior professionals and technicians.
Conducting field work from time to time.

Required Qualifications and Experience

Bachelor’s or postgraduate degree in hydrogeology, environmental engineering, geology, or a related environmental or geosciences field.
Registered as a Professional with APEGA or other provincial jurisdiction.
6 to 12 years of contaminated sites experience.
Direct experience with a variety of drilling, and soil and groundwater sampling methods.
Strong organizational skills, including effective management of multiple and conflicting priorities with a demonstrated ability to meet deadlines, in the context of work/life balance.
Ability to complete work tasks independently and able to provide direction and guidance to field teams.
Willing to work overtime, including long hours or on weekends from time to time.

Physical Requirements

Operate a pickup truck or van requiring a standard Class 5 Driver’s License to travel to project locations and transport equipment for sampling and testing at a variety of job sites.
Lift, bend, and turn while being able to move samples and equipment from one place to another, in and out of vehicles, and around the project site.
Work on uneven terrain and near large construction equipment.
Work in a variety of weather conditions, sometimes for long hours, and in remote locations.
